IN THE NORTH

Intensive travels through Scandinavia (over decades) mostly draw me to remote areas with pure nature.

If you should be able to match some of the numbered pictures above with the location names below, I would like to get an e-mail from you.

You can’t win any prize, but it might be interesting to get in contact for both of us. Nearby location names (alphabetical) :

Brottbäckstugan  /  Bårgåheden  ( = Råvemårkan)  /  Cunojokka  /  Eggelats  /  Guddunjaure  /  Lattuna-N /

Moskoselet  (july)  /  Moskoselet  (october)  /  Siljanskojan  /  Stormyren  /  Tromvika  /  Uulala-SE

Developing specialized equipment and mobile amateur radio are another fascination.

The vehicle that carries me everywhere - a 4wd VW T3 SYNCRO 16” - took us more than one year to rig up.

The navigational, APRS and mapping system, improved over many years, with nearly too many features.

The portable transponder increases the radius for RC HF-QSOs during long walks or boat tours.

Some people say, that there are many antennas on this vehicle. But it's just what is absolutely necessary, isn't it?

While travelling, there are skeds with friends at home near Hamburg. We use to run the bands down and stay at the best skip:

 Time (CET)          Frequency

11:30, 19:30    28.300 USB

11:35, 19:35    18.147 USB

11:40, 19:40    14.288 USB

11:45, 19:45     7.177 LSB

11:50, 19:50     5.354 USB

11:55, 19:55     3.788 LSB

         12:00, 20:00     1.995 LSB (winter)

While driving, I transmit APRS-signals on shortwave, mainly in RPR (Robust Packet Radio), under the callsign DF8HL

If you are seriously interested in MAPS, APRS and GPS-NAVIGATION, you should have a look at the fantastic program  "APR MAP" (APRMAP.EXE) with unique map functions. It is the little brother of my MAP-software and handles maps in the same way. It works with raster maps in UTM-projections worldwide. Supported resolutions are 5000m/p, 1000m/p, 200m/p, 50m/p, 10m/p and 2m/p. Maps in UTM zone 33 projection (identical to the new Swedish system SWREF99TM) all over Europe are directly accessable. Overview maps are included, detail maps CAN EASILY BE MADE BY YOURSELF (for example from maps by the Swedish Land Survey (LANTMÄTERIET) and others. If you want to know more or download the free test version (no time limitation) or overview maps, have a look here...
